During the evening of September 3, 2019, detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office received two separate tips alleging a possible school shooting and student with a death list. Detectives immediately began investigating, with the assistance of McCracken County Public Schools, and learned that the two tips were related to the same threat/juvenile.
After interviewing witnesses and potential victims, detectives learned that a 16 year old male student had made comments about having a “death list” and committing a shooting at the school. With help of MCPS and witnesses, detectives were able to quickly identify the suspect.
Detectives and deputies went to the juvenile’s residence and spoke to him. While at the residence, the 16 year old stated that he had told students that he had a death list. He also stated that he had told some juveniles that they were on his list. He stated to detectives that he meant it as a joke and did not actually have a list.
A search of his residence was conducted and no weapons were located. The juvenile was taken into custody and a McCracken County judge ordered him to be lodged in the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Center. The juvenile was charged with Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree, a Class “D” felony.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office thanks those who came forward with information and assisted in this investigation. The Sheriff’s Office would also urge anyone who hears rumors or threats of a school shooting to notify their local law enforcement as quickly as possible.
