Traffic Shift Planned along US 60 Work Zone in Paducah starting Tuesday Night, June 18th

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a traffic shift along the US 60 work zone near Kentucky Oaks Mall at Paducah starting Tuesday night, June 18, 2019.

Weather permitting, the contractor plans to shift traffic to the outside lanes along the US 60 work zone between Coleman Road and New Holt Road at Paducah to allow work along the median area.  This traffic shift is expected to start Tuesday night, June 18th and may continue into Wednesday night and possibly Thursday night until complete.

Motorists who regularly travel US 60 through this work zone should be alert for personnel making traffic control changes required to facilitate this traffic shift.  Motorists should also be alert for changes in traffic flow that the traffic shift may create along the work zone.  Appropriate caution is required.

Moving traffic to the outside lanes will allow the contractor to start placing new median curbing along this section of US 60/Hinckleville Road.

Again, this work zone traffic shift is expected to take place starting Tuesday night June 18, with traffic control changes continuing during the overnight hours for or a couple of nights.

As a reminder, this work zone extends along US 60/Hinkleville Road from Holt Road at milepoint 10.130 running eastward through the mall shopping area, through the I-24 Paducah Exit 4 Interchange to near the Coleman Road Intersection at milepoint 10.981.  Left turns along this work zone are restricted to signalized intersections only.

The contractor has been working mainly at night to help minimize traffic disruptions.  However, as construction activities have ramped up, daytime and weekend work has become more common.  Lane restrictions are in place during working hours at various locations along the project.  Appropriate signage is in place to guide motorists.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to be aware of ongoing construction activity and use appropriate caution when traveling US 60/Hinkleville Road through this work zone.

As part of the construction process, US 60 and ramps at the I-24/US 60 Paducah Exit 4 Interchange will be closed for several weeks this summer starting sometime after the July 4th Independence Holiday.  The contractor and KYTC Engineers are working on a strategy to shorten the length of the closure.  Engineers anticipate being able to supply a start date for that closure about two weeks in advance, along with a map to assist with motorists with detour routes.

Jim Smith Contracting, of Grand Rivers, Ky., is the prime contractor on this $9,179,425 highway improvement project. Work on the DCD interchange and other improvements are expected to be completed by sometime in November.
