KSP makes arrests in Mayfield shooting death

Kentucky State Police have arrested two Mayfield residents in connection to the Monday night shooting death of 46-year-old Timothy D. Roper in Graves County.

According to KSP, investigation revealed that Roper had been involved in an alleged break-in and robbery just prior to the shooting. Roper along with Miranda Kay Murphey, 32, and Joshua White, 28, both of Mayfield, reportedly forced their way into a residence on McNeil Road in Boaz. The three allegedly robbed and assaulted an elderly homeowner, who shot Roper during the incident, police say.

An autopsy confirmed Roper died of a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to a KSP media release.

KSP arrested Murphey and White about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Both were charged with complicity to commit first-degree burglary and complicity to commit first-degree robbery. Murphey was also charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Murphey and White were taken to Graves County Jail and held on a $50,000 cash bond each.

The investigation remains ongoing.
