Bevin recognizes promotion of 75 Kentucky State Police officers

FRANKFORT — Gov. Matt Bevin joined Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rick Sanders to recognize the promotion of 75 agency officers at a ceremony held Sept. 7 in Lexington. Four majors, 12 captains, 20 lieutenants and 39 sergeants were commissioned.

Bevin advised the officers to lead by example.

“Lead with integrity and with a sense of urgency,” he said. “Live each day to the fullest and leave everything on the battlefield. Don’t ever let the day end without completing the task to the best of your ability. Above all else, do it as you would have it done to you. It’s the Golden Rule. You will influence this state for years to come. Kentucky is blessed to have you.”

Sanders told the officers that leadership is an awesome responsibility and stressed the importance of passion: passion for the job, but compassion for people.

“It’s important to remember that we manage things, but we lead people,” he said. “The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not a bully; to be kind, but not weak; to be humble, but not timid and most of all, to be proud, but not arrogant.”

“When times get tough,” he added, “do your job professionally, have character and have integrity so the people who work with you look up to you for your leadership traits.”
