Lady Marshals secure #1 district seed in win over Calloway County

Payton Smothers hit two doubles in the Lady Marshals win over Calloway County.

MURRAY – The Lady Marshals secured the #1 district seed with a 3-1 win over Calloway County Thursday, taking advantage of five Lady Laker errors. Tied 1-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Payton Smothers hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Presley Jezik’s bunt to advance Smothers put two runners on with an error charged to Calloway pitcher Laken Kelso. Lexee Miller reached on a bunt and a left field line drive by Addie Young scored Jezik.

Smothers had two doubles in the game in the first and third innings and the win went to Aubree Jo Kemp in six innings on the mound, allowing two hits and one run.

The Lady Marshals will host McCracken County on Monday at 6:00.
