MURRAY – Marshall County’s Lady Marshals won the 4th District Championship 11-1 in 5 innings on Tuesday over Murray High. They jumped out to a big 5-0 lead in the 1st inning on an RBI single by Abby Fiessinger, a 2-run double by Bailey Murphy and 2-run single by Gracey Murt.
In the 2nd inning, Lexee Miller walked, Kenslie Cross reached on an error and Fiessinger was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Payton Smothers stepped up to the plate and hit her second grand slam of the season, clearing the bases and giving the Lady Marshals a commanding 9-0 lead.
The Lady Marshals added two more runs in the 4th on an RBI single by Addie Young that followed a triple by Fiessinger.Murphy hit a double off the left field fence that brought home Smothers for an 11-0 lead.
Loryn Carver hit an RBI double for the Lady Tigers in the 5th inning to avoid the shutout.
Briley English got the job done on the mound allowing 8 hits, 1 run and striking out 1.
The Region 1 Tournament will begin on Monday at Marshall County High School.
