The Marshals are in Fort Myers, Fla. playing in the City of Palms Classic, a tournament that began in 1973 as a local Christmas tournament and over the years has grown to feature some of the nation’s best players and teams with nearly 1,000 former tournament attendees going on to play Division I ball.

Marshall County is one of 28 teams at the City of Palms Classic, playing in the 16-field Traditional Bracket. Four teams are featured in the Signature Series and eight in the Sunshine Series. The Marshals played host Fort Myers in their first game on Wednesday, falling in overtime 74-71 to the 2018 Florida 7A-District 11 champions who finished with a 23-6 record.

Leading 35-29 at halftime, they saw their lead vanish in the third quarter when Fort Myers out-scored them by 10 points to lead 52-48. The Marshals out-scored Fort Myers by four points in the four quarter to tie the game 65-65 and force overtime. The Green Wave out-scoring the Marshals 9-6 in overtime for the win.

Zion Harmon led all scorers with 36 points and nine assists, Fort Myers was led by Kyle Riemenschneider with 17 points.

Thursday, the Marshals met Roman Catholic High School from Pennsylvania in the Consolation Bracket, last season’s Philadelphia Catholic League Champions and Pennsylvania Class 6A State Quarterfinalist with a 24-5 record. The team features 6-9 sophomore, Jalen Duren, who is ranked #2 in the nation according to ESPN and Rivals.

Roman Catholic lost 69-65 on Wednesday to McEachern High School who is the defending Georgia 7A State Champions and finished with a perfect 32-0 record.

Roman Catholic led 20-12 at the end of the first quarter and was off and running from there, hitting 75 percent of their shots in the third quarter and almost 59 percent for the game to win big over the Marshals, 79-26.

Roman Catholic out-scored the Marshals 29-5 in the third quarter and held them to zero fourth quarter points, led by Duren with 19 points and 18 rebounds. Tyler Stokes and Zion Harmon led the Marshals with nine points a piece.
