Nimmo wins first AJGA event in play-off

At Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland, Ky., Jay Nimmo of Benton won his first AJGA event, taking the Boys Division championship with a 5-under-par 205. Nimmo beat Matt Camel of Greenwich, Conn., in a two-hole playoff to earn the victory. He shot three under-par rounds over the three days of 67, 68 and 70.

According to AJGA, Nimmo is the 15th local boy to win the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior presented by BrickStreet Insurance in the seventh AJGA event of his career. The previous best finish for him was second in 2017 at the AJGA Junior All-Star in Owensboro.

The girls Division Champion was Ashleigh Park of Irvine, California with a 5-over-par 215, shooting rounds of 72, 70 and 73. This was Park’s 10th top-10 finish of her AJGA career.

Former winners of the tournament include professional Justin Thomas, the current number two ranked player in the world and Princeton’s Emma Talley.

Nimmo is a member of the Marshall County High School golf team and finished 1st Region runner-up last fall following a two-hole play-off against Lyon County’s Cullen Brown. He went on to finish 11th at the KHSAA State Golf Championship.
