Marshall County Libraries celebrated Teen Tech Week last week.

This is the time for libraries nationwide to showcase the variety of digital resources they have available to teens. Ashley Hayden, young adult librarian, used this opportunity to partner with Zach Martin, digital media coordinator, who also works in the tech services department at the library.

Teens at each library were able to participate in hands on tech activities at each branch in the field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) by creating a R2D2 droid.

“Activities like this are ways for teens to become familiar with skills sets they can use in the future. It also provides that access to materials and gives them time to be free to create things together with their peers outside of school,” said Hayden.

Marshall County Public Library teens had a great time last week playing with the droid inventor kit and learning how to create their own with help from Martin. Caitlyn Huffmaster, was chosen to receive the giveaway prize provided by the library, which was drawn from all those who participated in Teen Tech Week events.
