LOUISVILLE – Jay Nimmo is the 2016 KPGA Middle School State Champion and Savannah Howell took 3rd this past weekend at the tournament held at Quail Chase Golf Course in Louisville. Jay and Savannah won the Middle School State Qualifier at Paxton Park on September 24th to qualify for the State Championship.
Jay, a South Marshall Middle School student, shot a 2-under 70 to win the title by one stroke over Luke Coyle from Taylor County Middle. Rounding out the top five, Andrew Caldwell of Bell Central School shot an even par 70 for 3rd place, Hayes Mason of Taylor County Middle shot 73 for 4th and Jackson Hill from James Madison Middle earned 5th with a round of 74.
Macie Brown from Mt. Washington Elementary won the girl’s title with 77, Bree Russell from Metcalfe County Middle placed 2nd with 78 and Savannah shot 82 for a 3rd place finish. Savannah is a student at North Marshall Middle School.
Taylor County Middle won the team title with a score of 222.
The tournament was just the beginning of a busy week for the two golfers. As part of the Marshall County High School boy’s and girl’s golf teams, they will compete this week in the KHSAA State Golf Championships in Bowling Green.
The girl’s first round is Tuesday with tee times starting at 7:00 am from hole #10 and are paired with the teams from Owensboro Catholic and Madisonville North-Hopkins. The boy’s will tee it up on Friday off of hole #1 beginning at 7:00 am paired with players from Franklin County and Madison Central.
