Register now for Boo Bash Kuttawa Mountain Dash to benefit Veterans Program

boobashIn the wake of a successful fundraiser last month at Lake Barkley Crossfit, the Veterans Program Committee has announced its next event – the first Boo Bash Kuttawa Mountain Dash. The dash is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at Kuttawa Mountain Trailhead across from the boat dock at Old Kuttawa.

“Even with the success of our last fundraiser, we have a long way to go before our Veterans Appreciation Luncheon and Program in November,” said Terrie White, program founder.

“We are planning to make this first Boo Bash Kuttawa Mountain Dash a family friendly fun event. It will begin at the boat dock across from the Kuttawa Mountain Trail in Old Kuttawa, go up around the mountain, down across from the large pavilion in the park, and end at Hu-B’s parking lot for approximately a two-mile run/walk/workout.

“It’s a tough course but activities are being planned to make it a festive family event,” White said.

However, because it is a tough course, Bill Compton, Kuttawa fire chief, has volunteered to have all terrain vehicles (ATV) from Kuttawa and Eddyville Fire Departments on the mountain to assist any Boo Bash Dashers who might find the going too tough. “He sent me a message on Facebook and made the offer,” White said. “That should make people feel better if they’re afraid of the climb and decline. Chief Compton said his department will have a unit there to help anyone who needs help on the mountain.”

Compton confirmed the offer saying: “We’ll have personnel up there as well.”

“I really appreciate Chief Compton’s help with this,” White said.

Preregistration is already open and continues through Aug. 21. There are discounts for pre-registering for The Boo Bash Dash. Registration before Aug. 21 guarantees you a T-shirt custom-designed by Amy Beard, art teacher at Lyon County School District. She designed the shirt especially for this event.

All proceeds from these events will help fund the 16th annual Veterans’ Appreciation Luncheon and Program in November. And all veterans and their spouses are invited to the program. Veterans who attend are given a T-shirt with the program’s theme, provided a hot lunch, and a patriotic program in their honor will be performed by the 4th graders of Lyon County Elementary School. The program and luncheon are free for our veterans, White said.
