(McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky.) — Two juveniles have been charged following a string of vehicle break-ins that prompted a sheriff’s investigation spanning several days, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The investigation was launched last Sunday, May 3, after deputies began receiving multiple reports of vehicles with missing contents in the N. Crestview Drive and Grubbs Lane area of McCracken County. At least one victim reported that her car window had been shattered and her door lock tampered with.

As deputies canvassed the area, witnesses came forward reporting two juveniles had been seen moving through multiple properties throughout the night. Investigators gathered surveillance footage from nearby residences and, combined with witness accounts, were able to identify the two suspects.

Both juveniles were located, interviewed, and formally charged in connection with the incidents. Deputies recovered numerous stolen items, which have since been returned to their rightful owners.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is using the case as an opportunity to remind residents to take precautions to protect their property.

“We encourage citizens to lock their vehicles at night and to remove valuables such as cash, bank cards, credit cards, medications, and firearms,” the department said in a statement.

The names of the juveniles are not being released due to their age.
