(PADUCAH, Ky.)-Sixth-grade students from Metropolis Elementary School in Massac County will travel to the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah on Friday to take part in simulated space missions and hands-on STEM activities marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Challenger Center organization.
The event, running from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the center’s facility on the campus of West Kentucky Community and Technical College, will feature lessons based on those that teacher-astronaut Christa McAuliffe had planned to teach during the ill-fated 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger mission. The crew of that mission will be honored throughout the day.
Students and educators from Metropolis Elementary will work alongside Challenger Learning Center staff during the activities, which are designed to inspire the next generation of explorers through experiential STEM education — the core mission of the Challenger Center since its founding four decades ago.
Media are welcome to attend between 9:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.
