(LYON COUNTY, Ky.) — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported a busy week of incidents across the region, ranging from a vehicle submerged in Lake Barkley to a meth-fueled false burglary report, according to the department’s latest media release.
Vehicle Plunges into Lake Barkley
A Princeton woman narrowly escaped injury last Tuesday after her SUV rolled into Lake Barkley at a boat ramp in Old Kuttawa. Chief Deputy Sam Adams responded just after 1 p.m. on April 14 to find that Jacqueline Toppel, 72, had lost control of her 2004 Ford Excursion while backing a boat trailer down the ramp, sending the vehicle into the water. No injuries were reported. The Lyon County Water Response Team, Lyon County EMS, and Emergency Management assisted at the scene.
Man High on Meth Calls 911 About Imaginary Burglar
In one of the stranger incidents of the week, a Cadiz man called 911 just before midnight Sunday to report someone breaking into his attic. When Deputy Bobby Beeler arrived at the Lamasco residence, he found no intruder — but did find Thomas C. Bush, 42, in possession of methamphetamine. Authorities determined Bush had been using the drug when he made the call. He was charged with filing a false report, first-degree controlled substance possession (second offense), and was also found to be a fugitive from Montgomery County, Tennessee. Bush was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
Two Injured in Rainy Interstate Crash
Two Owensboro women were transported to Lourdes Mercy Health Hospital after a single-vehicle crash on I-69 near US 62 Thursday evening. Deputy Josh Travis responded around 5:25 p.m. to find that Skyler Harris, 21, lost control of her 2025 Ford in wet conditions, sliding off the right shoulder and down an embankment before striking a tree. Harris and her passenger, Makenna Hall, 23, both sustained minor injuries. The Eddyville Police Department, Eddyville Fire Department, and Kentucky State Police also responded.
A second single-vehicle crash occurred early Saturday morning in the 3000 block of KY 1943, when Colleen Baldwin, 55, of Oakland Park, Florida, swerved to avoid a deer and struck a parked car. Baldwin was taken to Marshall County Hospital for treatment.
Warrants Served, Domestic Violence Arrest Made
Sheriff Brent White had a busy Wednesday, serving multiple court warrants. Kristy Moore, 45, of Cadiz was arrested on a Crittenden Circuit Court contempt charge, while Mark Thornton, 53, of Harrisburg, Illinois, was taken into custody on three separate felony probation violation warrants out of Union Circuit Court. Both were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
On Saturday evening, Deputy Beeler arrested Angela Perez, also known as Angela Mallory, at a KY 903 residence near Lamasco on a fourth-degree assault charge involving domestic violence.
Additional Cases
In other activity, Chief Deputy Adams served a bench warrant Friday on David Lawless, 47, of Eddyville for failure to appear in Union District Court. Lawless later posted bond and was released. Sarah Riley, 37, of Marion received a criminal summons Wednesday on a theft by deception charge involving cold checks under $300, with a May court date in Crittenden District Court. And on Monday, deputies served a summons on Amy Frazier, 48, of Eddyville for allegedly failing to ensure her child attended school, also facing a May court date.
