Brian Cannon Running for Marshall County Jailer

(MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky.) — Brian Cannon has announced his candidacy for Marshall County Jailer, citing more than 26 years of experience in county jail operations.

Cannon, a 29-year resident of Marshall County, has spent his career at the Calloway County Jail, where he has held positions including Deputy Jailer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Class D Coordinator, and his current role as Captain. His work has encompassed staffing, inmate supervision, booking and release procedures, court coordination, budgeting, and interagency collaboration.

Cannon has completed more than 1,040 hours of Department of Corrections training and holds certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, firearms, Taser, and OC spray. He is a Certified Trainer for JailTracker and a Certified Virtual Wrap Instructor. He was named Deputy Jailer of the Year in 2025 and has held the title of Kentucky Colonel since 2016.

During his tenure in Calloway County, Cannon was involved in implementing a jail fee system that has generated over $1.1 million since 2021, with funds directed to the county’s General Fund. He has stated that if elected, he would draft a similar Jail Fee Policy for the Marshall County Jail and submit it to the Fiscal Court for consideration.

Cannon has also written grants through the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security and has worked with the Class D Work Release Program and the Second Chance Workforce Program.

His stated priorities include staff development, inmate programming, mental health resources for staff and inmates, and fiscal accountability in jail operations.
