(PADUCAH, Ky.)-Two Marshall County High School seniors are being recognized for their academic achievement and community involvement after being selected to receive scholarships from Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation (JPEC).
Maleah Terry and Catherine Shelton were named among ten graduating high school seniors across the region to receive $1,000 scholarships from the Paducah-based electric cooperative. The awards were announced April 20.
The pair faced stiff competition — more than 36 students across JPEC’s service area applied for the scholarships this year. To be considered, applicants were required to submit an essay outlining their goals, academic transcripts, and records of extracurricular involvement. A selection panel at Kentucky Electric Cooperatives headquarters reviewed and scored each application before making final selections based on merit and district representation.
“JPEC is proud to partner with the schools in our service territory and support students as they pursue higher education,” said Mark Lindsey, Vice President of Member Services & Communications. He added that the cooperative hopes the recipients will one day return to Western Kentucky as community leaders.
Terry and Shelton were joined by eight other recipients from schools across the region, including students from Ballard County, Carlisle County, Graves County, Livingston County, and McCracken County high schools.
To be eligible, students must live within JPEC’s service area and have a parent or guardian who is a cooperative member.
