
(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) – Pickleball players from Calvert City enjoyed a banner fall season, bringing home dozens of medals from tournaments across four states during September and October.
The success started early in September when Brent Thompson and his partner captured gold in the Men’s 4.5/5.0 division at the Lake Forest Pickleball Classic in St. Louis on September 6.
The following weekend, Calvert City athletes swept through the Saluki Open in Carbondale, Illinois, claiming six medals across multiple divisions. Kayla Travis and Sydney Strop took gold in Women’s 4.5, while Jackson Crawford and Jenny Hargrave won gold in Mixed 4.0. The haul also included three silver medals and one bronze.
At the Paddle Up Paducah tournament, also held September 13-14, local players added eight more medals to their collection. Carlos Flowers and Jennifer Hewing claimed gold in Mixed 3.5, while Sydney Oswald and Colby Schroeder won the Mixed 3.0 division.
The winning streak continued September 20 at Paddle for a Purpose in Paducah, where Cannon Cornelius and Ricky Baker took gold in Men’s Advanced, and Micah Prude and Carolyn Powers won Mixed Intermediate/Advanced.
Cornelius had a standout performance on September 27 at the Hopkinsville Pickleball Tournament, winning three gold medals – in Men’s 4.0 (with Edwin Moore), Mixed 3.5 and up (with Cindy Crawford), and Co-Ed Singles Open.
October brought continued success. At the West Kentucky Pickleball Club MLP on October 11, the team of Abby Crawford, Anna Crawford, Jackson Crawford and Donald Sirls captured gold. That same day, Marty and Vickie Gamble won gold in Mixed 3.5 at the Milan Pickleball Tournament in Tennessee.
The fall season concluded October 18-19 at the Rivertown Pickleball 3rd Annual Battle in the Burgh in Newburgh, Indiana, where Calvert City players earned five more medals, including three golds.
Throughout the season, Brigette Thompson also represented Calvert City at multiple Dink MiLP state championships, winning bronze in Missouri and gold in Tennessee in the DUPR 14 50+ division.
