Traffic Collisions Keep Deputies Busy
The week saw a series of vehicle accidents across Lyon County. On Sunday morning, August 24, Sheriff Brent White responded to a collision in Kuttawa involving a 2020 Volvo semi-truck driven by 22-year-old Yuvraj Saluja of Ontario, Canada, which sideswiped a parked Volvo owned by DRD Express. No injuries were reported.
Two days later, Deputy Bobby Beeler investigated a sideswipe collision on Center Ridge Road between vehicles driven by 86-year-old Frank N. Daniel of Madisonville and 67-year-old Timothy D. Johnson of Eddyville. The investigation determined Daniel’s vehicle failed to maintain its lane, but no injuries occurred.
The most serious collision of the week took place Tuesday evening on US 62 West in Kuttawa, where 56-year-old Leslie Combs Waide of Almo struck a deer while riding her 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle. Waide was transported by Lyon County EMS to Baptist Health in Paducah for treatment of her injuries.
On Wednesday morning, a 2025 Kenworth semi driven by Anthony E. Foster, 30, of Brooksville, Florida, collided with a guardrail at the I-24 Exit 45 interchange, causing approximately 50 feet of damage. The Kentucky Department of Highways assisted with repairs.
The week’s final traffic incident occurred early Saturday morning on I-24 at the 48.5-mile marker, where the driver of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma fled the scene after a collision that totaled the vehicle. The driver later sought medical attention at a Clarksville hospital, and charges are pending.
DUI Arrests and Warrant Service
Law enforcement made two DUI arrests during the reporting period. On Monday afternoon, Sheriff White arrested 38-year-old Katharine R. Stacy of Eddyville on a second-offense DUI charge after she drove to the Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated matter. White suspected impairment and administered field sobriety tests, confirming his suspicions.
Saturday night brought another DUI arrest when Deputy Beeler stopped 21-year-old Parker L. Richardson of Fairfield, Illinois, on US 62 in Kuttawa. Following field sobriety tests, Richardson was charged with DUI-first offense.
Deputies also served a Madison District Court bench warrant on 60-year-old Sookie Shreve of Irvine for failure to appear in court. Shreve awaits extradition back to Madison County.
Domestic Violence and Contraband Charges
On Saturday, Chief Deputy Sam Adams responded to a domestic disturbance on Elkhorn Tavern Road, resulting in the arrest of 38-year-old Jennifer L. Swander of Eddyville on fourth-degree assault charges involving domestic violence.
Later that day, Adams arrested 29-year-old Danice M. Hood of Patriot, Indiana, at the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex. Hood was charged with first-degree promoting contraband and marijuana possession after corrections officers discovered a marijuana cigarette in her clothing during a pre-visitation search.
All arrestees were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate these matters.
