Marshall County was looking to remain undefeated when they hosted Graves County on Friday, while the Eagles were intent on being the spoiler. The First Region rivalry rarely disappoints and after a 32-minute grind it out battle, the Marshals came out on top 54-49.
Darrell Hughes dropped in a three to open the game for the Eagles. Following a free throw from Ryan Stokes, Tommy Robertson scored to even the game at 3-3 and it was the start of five ties throughout the first quarter that ended knotted up at 13-13.
Kaden Mohler followed up an early 15-13 second quarter lead for the Eagles with a nice assist to Alex Staples under the goal and a three-pointer to put the Marshals on top 18-15. Ty Cavette converted a three for the Eagles and they were all even again at 18.
The Marshals finished out the half outscoring the Eagles 11-7 behind scoring from Matthew Langhi, Stokes and Robinson to head to the locker room up by four at 29-25.

Four points from Robertson and a three from Kyzer Phillips gave the Marshals their largest lead of the night at 36-27 early in the second half. Braden Waller took control for the Eagles and powered his way to the goal for six of their points during an 11-2 run that followed to tie the game up at 38.
The packed Reed Conder Gymnasium really came alive when Langhi pulled off an and-1 play and brought to their feet when Robertson drew a five-second call at the other end with the Marshals defensive skills in full display.
Langhi converted free throws after drawing another foul then put an exclamation point on the quarter by draining a three to put the Marshals on top 46-40.
The Eagles trimmed the Marshals lead to 48-47 in the fourth quarter on a three by Bodie Veucasovic. A free throw and basket by Robinson pushed it back out the four points, enough to force the Eagles to start fouling in the closing minute and they finished out the win at the line.
Langhi led the Marshals with 18 points and was 9-of-11 at the line while as a team, the Marshals were 15-of-19. Graves County was 11-of-16 at the line and led in scoring by Waller with 15.
With three home games on tap next week against Christian Fellowship, Paducah Tilghman and McCracken County, the Marshals are eyeing a magic number. A sweep of those games would give them a 20-0 mark that would set a new all-time season best start previously held by the 1980-1981 team that went 19-0.
