Sandy Gibbs, 74, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on June 17, 2024. Born on May 18, 1950, in Sacramento, CA, to loving parents Ben and Tillie Andrews. Sandy lived a full and vibrant life alongside her devoted husband who brought her and her family to Kentucky after meeting on a blind date while he was stationed in California. Sandy never met a stranger and had a heart that knew no bounds. Her family and friends knew her as someone whose door was always open in times of need and whose passion for those she cared for never faltered.
Sandy was the kind of person who was always on the go. If someone even mentioned the idea of going somewhere around her, she’d have her shoes on and purse ready to head out the door. Her family will always remember the moments they shared in the mountains of Gatlinburg and on the beaches of Florida and South Carolina. She was a lover of the outdoors who spent many days tending to her garden and relaxing on her porch with a glass of iced sweet tea. Sandy had a deep passion for taking care of animals in need, including the many strays she took in over the years and even the squirrels who lived in her backyard. She was also widely known amongst family, friends, and anyone who ever had the pleasure of trying them, for her peanut butter cookie recipe.
She is preceded in death by her dear parents, Benjamin and Tillie Andrews; her precious brother, Terry Andrews; and her soulmate, Jerry Gibbs, who she devoted 45 years to. She was a loving mother to, and is survived by, Gary (Kari) Gibbs, Tammy (Johnny) Compton, and Cindy (Joe) Brannon of Paducah, KY. She was a devoted mawmaw to, and is survived by, Kortney (Rod) Purdiman of Paducah, Kayla (Kyle) Coley of Paducah, Kassidi (Chris) Cobin of Royalton, IL, Dakota Shugars of Lexington, KY, Chase Brannon of Paducah, Nick Shepler of Paducah, Amanda Cherry of Benton, and Kamyn Childers of Paducah. She also leaves behind her two dear sisters, Patty Andrews of Paducah and Bonnie Edwards of Benton.
