Fiser earns Best Male Freshman Athlete Award at University of Cincinnati Track & Field Banquet

Ben Fiser of Marshall County accepting his Best Male Freshman Track & Field Athlete award as a member of the University of Cincinnati track team.

Marshall County 2022 graduate, Ben Fiser, earned the award for Best Male Freshman Track & Field Athlete at the University of Cincinnati’s Track & Field Recognition Ceremony held in October for his outstanding performance during the 2023 spring outdoor season.

At that time, UC was a member of the American Athletic Conference but is now a member of the Big 12 Conference.

While at Marshall County Ben was a force in the ring. Of the 14 meets he competed in during his senior season, he finished first in 19 events, second in six events and was ranked first in the state in discus with a throw of 56’9.5″.

As part of the 2022 Region 1 champion team, Ben won the Region 1 title in shot put (53′.75″) and discus (159’6″). He finished runner-up in both shot put (53’9.75″) and discus (165’11”) at the 2022 KHSAA State Track & Field Championships.

Ben qualified for the Adidas Outdoor Nationals and placed second overall in the hammer throw with a throw of (190’6.25″), fourth overall in discus, and eighth in the shot put.

In his senior season for the Marshals, Ben was selected First Team All-State and First Team Class 3A All-Area 1.

Ben won two state titles in the 2021 KHSAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships for indoor shot put and 2021 KHSAA Outdoor State Track & Field Championships in discus. At the end of his senior season, Ben was a 7-time All-American, he ranked 14th in the country in hammer throw, was a Junior Olympian, placed second at the Adidas Outdoor Nationals in hammer throw, and was ranked #1 in Kentucky in weight throw.

His accomplishments for the Bearcats this past outdoor season include:

• Top 8 in three out of the six in-season meets.

• First in Hammer Throw, throwing a 16lb hammer, at the Tennessee Invite with his best throw of the season marked at 181 feet 9 inches or 55.39m.

•At the Outdoor AAC Conference Championships, he placed 4th having scored 5 points for the men’s program in the Hammer Throw.

• Ranked in the Top 9 of the UC Record book in the men’s hammer throw.

Ben is majoring in Exercise Science.
