Mildred E. Powell, 88, of Paducah, KY passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday January 5th, 2024.

Born on October 1, 1935, to James R. and Estelle Joiner, she was raised and spent many happy years in Smithland, KY before moving to Paducah in 1982.  On October 22nd, 1955, she married Charles E. Powell, and they shared 54 years together.  He preceded her in death in 2010, but they are now reunited for eternity.  Her greatest joys in life were being a mother to her only daughter and “Nanny” to her only granddaughter and two great-grandbabies.

The two most important things to Nanny were her faith and her family.  She was a preacher’s wife and served at many churches throughout her lifetime including Smithland First Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and Park Avenue Baptist Church.  She later attended Trinity Baptist Church and Heartland Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her “Girls” and “The Babies.”  They were her pride and joy, and her “Girls” took care of her until the very end.

She is survived by her daughter Tina (Scott) Powell Thorning of Paducah, granddaughter Christal (Dustin) Crane of Paducah, a sister Juette Day of Nashville, TN, two great-grandchildren Charlie Jack Crane and Carleigh James Crane of Paducah, many nephews and nieces, and dear friend Kay Bellamy.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell “Goat” Joiner, James “Jack” Joiner, Elvis “Bugs” Joiner, and William “Buddy” Joiner, and one sister Bernadette Joiner.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Lindsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 11:00am to service hour at the funeral home.
