Lady Marshals win Regional Championship, Marshals Runner-Up

Presley Gallimore overtook Davies County at the line on the final lap of the 4 x 400 relay to take the win in 4:17.36.

Marshall County High School was the site of the Class 3A First Region track and field meet on Tuesday. At the end of a great day of competition, the Lady Marshals raised the first-place trophy while the Marshals finished runner-up, just behind McCracken County who took first.

The top two in each event automatically qualify for the State Track and Field Championship on Saturday, June 3 at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex. After the top two, the next 10 best finishers in each event from across the state will fill up the 24 spots for each event.

The Lady Marshals team had nine automatic state qualifiers.

Many more great performances were recorded by the girls’ team including a third place finish in the 400 meters (1:01.30) by Presley Gallimore. Jessica Reed ran to a third place finish in the 800 meters (2:33.38). Rylee Thompson finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.65) and Phoebe Ramsey placed fourth in shot put (33-03).

Ethan McCarty crosses the line to win the 800 meters, stopping the clock with a time of 2:00.81.

The Marshals team had six automatic qualifiers and like the girls will have several more qualify from their results on Tuesday.

The boys team turned in more great performances from many including Kobey Yates who placed third in the 3200 meters (9:56.86). Alexander Holman took third in the high jump (6-00) and third in long jump (21-01.50). Jack Johnson placed third in the pole vault (10-06). Aiden Dunigan recorded a couple of fourth place finishes in the long jump (20-06.50) and in triple jump (39-10.75). Joey Colley finished fourth in shot put (42-07).

Bailey Allred took sixth in shot but automatically qualified for state in discus with a throw of 106-08.
Deegan Croley automatically qualified for state in two events after his second place finish in discus with a distance of 140-05 and second place in shot with 45-05.
