LYON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE

 

 

  1. On Thursday, March 9th, 2023, just after midnight, Deputy David Carroll, while on routine patrol, observed a vehicle in a restricted area on Corps of Engineers’ property in Kuttawa and investigated further. He located Christopher W. Hastings (36) of Eddyville.  Hastings was a passenger in the vehicle and found to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance.  Hastings was charged with Possession of Marijuana and cited to court.  He was allowed to depart the area with a sober driver.

 

  1. On Friday, March 10th, 2023, at 2:55pm, School Resource Officer Jason Young charged a 15 year old juvenile male with Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia-Possession following a drug investigation at the high school. The juvenile was released to a parent pending District Court proceedings.

 

  1. On Friday, March 10th, 2023, just around 5:45pm, Deputies Aaron O’Leary and Danny Collings responded to an explosion complaint in the 500 block of KY 810 North. Sheriff’s Deputies have answered numerous complaints about loud explosions at all hours of the day/night in the same area previously. On this date, Deputy O’Leary made contact with Zettie C. Jarrard (48) of Kuttawa.  The investigation revealed Jarrard was shooting an explosive compound with a high-powered rifle in a residential area and causing annoyance and alarm to multiple neighbors.  She had previously been warned about this conduct by Sheriff’s Deputies. Jarrard was charged by Deputy O’Leary with Disorderly Conduct-2nd  She was cited to court for this offense.

 

  1. On Saturday, March 11, 2023, around 9:20pm, Deputies Aaron O’Leary and Danny Collings responded to the Spring Hill Drive area in reference to an intoxicated person complaint. Deputy O’Leary located and arrested George B. Mattingly (23) of Chicago, IL. after locating him in an intoxicated condition.  He was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in Public Place-1st Offense and was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

 

  1. On Sunday, March 12, 2023, just before 4pm, Deputy Danny Collings responded to a burglary and theft complaint at King’s Storage Units on KY 295 North of Kuttawa. The investigation revealed unknown person(s) broke into a storage unit between January and this date and stole approximately $14,000 in baseball equipment (helmets, baseball bats, uniforms, and etc.) which had been donated to the Dawson Springs Youth League, Inc. following the December 2021 tornado event after their facilities and equipment were destroyed.  If anyone has information concerning this crime, you are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (270) 388-2311 or anonymously at https://www.lyonsheriff.com/report-a-crime.html .

 

  1. On Sunday, March 12, 2023, just before 1pm, Deputies David Carroll and Danny Collings responded to an illegal burning complaint on Dustin Road with the Kuttawa Fire Department. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Billy Owens (46) of Kuttawa and Melissa Kenton (40) of Kuttawa. Owens had a pit bull dog which was aggressive and trying to bite persons on the scene.  Deputy Carroll directed Owens to put the dog away for everyone’s safety, to which he did.

 

Kenton was found to have an active bench warrant for her arrest out of McCracken County for Contempt of Court in a pending drug case. While she was being arrested by Deputy Collings, the pit bull got loose from its owner and attempted to attack Deputy Carroll.  Deputy Carroll fired his issued service weapon at the dog, striking it and stopping its attack.

 

Kenton was charged with the warrant service and Owens was charged with Harboring a Vicious Animal.  The dog survived the gunshot wound and was provided medical attention by its owner.

 

  1. On Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10am, a citizen reported being the victim of an identity theft scam. The Kuttawa resident reported just under $10,000 was fraudulently taken from an account in his name with the Small Business Administration as it related to his business.  Deputy Danny Collings is the investigating officer.
