LYON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE

 

 

  1. (UPDATED) On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 5:54pm, Deputy Jeremy Hillyard and other first responders were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on US 62 West near Hopewell Road. The investigation revealed this was an incident which resulted in two separate collision incidents from the same causative vehicle.

 

The first collision involved a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup with a trailer in tow being operated by Stephanie M. Frost (21) of Hardin who was West on US 62.  Several hay bales from Frost’s trailer fell off and into the roadway unknowingly to her.

 

The hay bales in the roadway were struck by an Eastbound 2021 Toyota Rav4 driven by Randell Ramey (63) of Eddyville, causing his vehicle to be damaged.  There were no reported injuries in this collision event.

 

The second collision involved a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Donald Lewis (54) of Eddyville which was initially West bound on US 62 when he collided with the hay bales and turned around to warn other drivers and see if he could get the objects out of the roadway.  Lewis’ vehicle while East bound came across the centerline and collided with a 2020 Nissan Armada driven by Natasha Cook (48) of Kuttawa which was West bound.  Two juvenile passengers in the Cook vehicle were injured and sought treatment at an area hospital.

 

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kuttawa Fire Department, Lyon County EMS, and the Eddyville Police Department at the scene.

 

  1. On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, around 9am, Chief Deputy Sam Adams served a criminal complaint on Justin Kingston (32) of Kuttawa, charging him with Criminal Trespass – 2nd Kingston is accused of trespassing on property in which notice against trespass was given, and while there, Kingston took photographs of personal property which did not belong to him and attempted to sell the property in an on-line sales platform.  The incident was investigated by Sheriff Brent White.
  2. On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, between 7:40am and 3:30pm, SRO Deputy Jason Young charged two juveniles as it pertained to threats to the safety of the Lyon County Middle School. In the first incident, a 12 year old male student reportedly made a threat that he would bring a gun and knife to school and shoot and stab another student.  The juvenile was detained and charged with Terroristic Threatening – 2nd He was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

 

The second incident involved a 13 year old female student reportedly threatening the safety of the Middle School directly to a staff member in the school following a dress code violation.  The juvenile was also charged with Terroristic Threatening – 2nd Degree and turned over to the Court Designated Worker.

 

  1. On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, around 3pm, Chief Deputy Sam Adams and Sheriff Brent White answered a welfare check on Gum Street in Kuttawa. During their investigation, officers found Rocky E. Pack (41) of Kings Mountain, NC hiding in a closet.  Pack was arrested and charged with being a Fugitive from Justice from North Carolina as it pertained to a theft related felony warrant.  In addition, he was also charged with Possession of Marijuana.  Pack was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.  An adult female and male juvenile in the home were not harmed.

 

  1. On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, around 8:15pm, Deputy David Carroll and Chief Deputy Sam Adams were on Lakeview Drive in Eddyville following up on an unrelated investigation when they had contact with Dillon J. Combs (31) of Eddyville. Combs was found to be in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and pills.  He was issued a citation which requires his court appearance as it pertains to the following charges:

 

  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess
  • Possession Controlled Substance – 3rd Degree

 

  1. On Friday, January 20, 2023, around 1:15pm, Chief Deputy Sam Adams arrested Christopher J. Shonkwiler (28) of Louisville on a Lyon District Court complaint warrant for being a Fugitive from Another State. Shonkwiler is wanted in Wood County, Ohio for Possession of Fentanyl.  Shonkwiler faces extradition proceedings in the coming days to determine if he will be sent back to Ohio.  Until then, he is lodged in the Western KY Correctional Complex as a state inmate.

 

 

 

 

  1. On Saturday, January 21, 2023, just after 6pm, Deputy Joe Witherspoon made a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on KY 810 South after he observed it being operated carelessly on US 62. The vehicle was driven by Bryan L. Fox (53) of Kuttawa. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Careless Driving and DUI-2nd Offense (aggravating circumstance).  Fox was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

 

  1. On Sunday morning, January 22, 2023, approximately 50 minutes after midnight, Deputies David Carroll and Joe Witherspoon responded to a disturbance in Eddyville. Their investigation determined that Aaron B. Andrews (42) of Eddyville was intoxicated and had reportedly assaulted a female at a residence on Linden Avenue.  When Deputy Carroll attempted to place handcuffs on Andrews to take him into custody, he resisted and fought with deputies.  At one point, Andrews took a swing at Deputy Witherspoon, who blocked the punch, while Deputy Carroll deployed his issued Taser upon Andrews in order to gain control of him.  Andrews was then arrested without further incident and later lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.  Andrews was charged with the following offenses:

 

  • Assault-4th Degree (dating violence)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault-3rd Degree (upon a police officer) – 2 counts
