Lady Eagles pick up district win over Murray

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles evened up their district record to 1-1 with Friday’s 51-31 win over Murray. It was their second win over the Lady Tigers in the 12 games the two schools have played dating back to February 1998. Murray drops to 1-2 in district play and 6-10 overall.

The game was tied 9-9 at the end of the first quarter, Lillian Burnett scoring seven of the Lady Eagles nine points. The game remained knotted up at halftime, both teams heading to the locker room on a 19-19 tie. Gracie Howard, who was held scoreless in the first quarter, put up six of the Lady Eagles 10 second quarter points.

CFS outscored Murray by three in the third quarter and the game remained close at 28-25.

The Lady Eagles had a huge fourth quarter, scoring 24 points while holding the Lady Tigers to six. Howard scored 10, seven coming at the free throw line. Jayden Jackson was 4-for-4 at the line in the fourth quarter and Burnett added five points.

Howard led all scorers with 20 points and hit two three-pointers. Burnett finished with 16 points. Alyssa Daughrity led Murray with 10 points.

CFS followed Friday’s win with a 68-60 loss to the Lady Lyons on Saturday in Lyon County.

A six-point lead at the end of the first quarter vanished in the second when Lyon County scored 21 points, outscoring the Lady Eagles by nine to take a 31-28 lead at halftime.

Jayden Jackson hit two of her four three-pointers in the game in the third quarter and they outscored the Lady Lyons by two to trail by just one point at 42-41 heading into the fourth.

Lyon County outscored CFS by seven in the fourth quarter, heading to the free throw line 10 times and hitting seven on their way to an eight-point win.

Jackson had 21 points to lead the Lady Eagles, Lillian Burnett earned a double double with 15 points and 24 rebounds. Eighth grader, Piper Cotham, led Lyon County with 19 points.
