One Turn Lane Eliminated for U.S. 60 Eastbound at Ledbetter Bridge Crossover in McCracken County

Reduction aimed at reducing crashes

PADUCAH, Ky. (August 9, 2022)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has eliminated a left-turn lane at the west end of the U.S. 60 Tennessee River “Ledbetter” Bridge in McCracken County.

The new traffic arrangement requires all eastbound U.S. 60 traffic to move to the single left-turn lane to enter the crossover to continue eastbound across the Ledbetter Bridge into Livingston County.

A review of traffic crashes for eastbound U.S. 60 traffic making a left-turn onto the Ledbetter bridge found that almost all of the crashes at the crossover were due to side swipe crashes at the point where the two turns lanes met.   Moving traffic to a single turn lane is expected to reduce or eliminate those crashes.

Please see turn lane graphic attached.

An analysis of crashes at the crossover entry point found 9 crashes with one injury at this site over the last three years.
