Lady Marshals go 2-2 at Greenwood Border Battle

In four games at the Greenwood Border Battle, Chloe Coursey was 8-for-12 with two triples and batted in seven runs.

Four games over 18 hours were played by the Lady Marshals at the Greenwood Border Battle in Bowling Green. They finished 2-2 with wins over Beech Grove, In. and Bowling Green and loses came against Greenwood and Boyle County.

Friday’s 6:30 game against Greenwood found the Lady Marshals down 5-0 after three innings and it would remain that way until the top of the seventh. The Lady Marshals scored four runs in the seventh which started on singles by Anna Vasseur and Chloe Coursey. Madyson Morton tripled to score Vasseur and Coursey and a double by Tia Thorpe scored Morton to cut into Greenwoods lead at 5-3.

Macy McLeod, running for Thorpe, scored when Audrey Knisley at the plate reached on an error and the Greenwood lead was cut to one at 5-4, the final score of the game.

The Lady Marshals beat Beech Grove, In. 13-2 in their late game on Friday. They had 15 hits in the win, led by Charley Pursley who went 4-for-4 with a home run in the top of the second inning and she finished with three RBIs.

The lead was 8-0 after three innings before Beech Grove scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Marshals added five more runs in the top of the fifth to seal the 13-2 win.

Chloe Coursey and Madisyn Mortin both had two hits in the win which included a triple each and Allicen Harris hit two doubles. Gracelyn Darnall went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. The win went to Tia Thorpe who struck out seven while allowing two runs on four hits.

Saturday’s 10:00am game against Boyle County opened on a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Allicen Harris single that scored Charley Pursley. Boyle County tied the game with a run in the second inning.

The Lady Marshals went up 3-1 in the top of the third, runs scoring on two triples hit by Chloe Coursey and Harris. A huge nine-run bottom of the inning by Boyle County gave them a commanding 10-3 lead, the inning highlighted by homers from Kayleigh White and Summer Ray.

Two more runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings wrapped up the Lady Rebels 12-3 win.

Allicen Harris connected for a double and triple and batted in three runs in the Lady Marshals 10-4 win over Bowling Green.

The Lady Marshals wrapped up their four games in the Greenwood Border Battle with a 10-4 win over Bowling Green. They tallied 13 hits led by Chloe Coursey who went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs and Allicen Harris who was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs.

Gracelyn Darnall picked up the win, pitching five and two-thirds innings. She gave up one run and three hits.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Harris hit a triple that scored a run but the lead vanished in the second inning with three runs put up by Bowling Green.

A five-run fourth inning for the Lady Marshals began on singles from Chevelle Henson and Marin Oakley and a walk drawn by Charley Pursley that loaded up the bases. A walk by Anna Vasseur brought in Henson, Coursey hit a two-run single, Harris hit a double that brought Pursley in and a bunt by Madyson Morton scored the fifth run of the inning for a 6-3 lead.

Bowling Green cut it to 6-4 in the fifth but a four-run bottom of the inning by the Lady Marshals increased the lead to 10-4. All four runs came in on two outs. After Henson scored on a home plate steal, Coursey hit a two-run triple and a single by Harris scored the final run.
