Lady Eagles win KCAC Tournament

Christian Fellowship celebrates their KCAC Tournament championship Saturday in Elizabethtown.

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles won the Kentucky Christian Athletic Conference (KCAC) tournament this weekend in Elizabethtown. To earn the title, they beat Somerset 7-6 and Community Christian 9-6.

In the first game against Somerset, the two teams were knotted up at 5-5 after six innings. CFS put up two runs in the top of the seventh and Somerset scored one in the bottom of the inning that finished out the one-run win for the Lady Eagles.

Down 1-0 heading into the second inning, the Lady Eagles scored four runs, all with two outs. A single by Jayden Jackson brought in the first run followed by a single from Gracie Howard that set off a flurry of three runs.

Somerset cut it to one with a two-run third inning. Lily Burnett batted in a run in the fifth to put CFS up 5-3 with Somerset cutting it to one again in the bottom of the inning before tying the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning.

Jackson pitched the win over six and two-third innings, striking out four, giving up five runs and eight hits.

Community Christian led 2-0 after two innings before the Lady Eagles got busy scoring runs in each of the next four innings in their 9-6 win.

They fired things up in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs on a single by Burnett, an error that brought Gracie Howard across the plate and a run scored by Renee Shields on a passed ball which tied the game at 3-3. CCA added two runs in the fourth on an Alyssa Knight double and Kate Wade single to lead 5-3.

The Lady Eagles took a 7-5 lead with a four-run bottom of the fourth. Ava Manning and Jayden Jackson led off with singles. A triple off the bat of Rhema Howard brought the two base runners to home plate to tie the game and a run scored on a bunt by Alyssa Warren.

The back and forth battle continued in the fifth inning, with CCA cutting the CFS lead to 7-6 and the Lady Eagles taking went up 8-6 when a ground out hit by Gracie Howard scored Kyndal Owen. A hit by Owen scored Lily Burnett in the sixth which sealed the 9-6 win.

Jackson earned the win over seven innings in the circle, giving up six runs and 13 hits.

The Lady Eagles improve to 8-4. They will play CCA again on Tuesday in Paducah and host University Heights on Thursday.
