Howard’s 31 points leads CFS to district win over Calloway County

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles improved to 15-5 following their second district win on Thursday over Calloway County and a Saturday win over Community Christian Academy. The 15 wins ties the 2019-20 season and they are on track to recording the most wins in girls’ basketball program history at CFS.

In Thursday’s 50-44 win over Calloway County, the Lady Eagles jumped out in front 22-8 in the first quarter behind 14 points from Gracie Howard. Calloway came roaring back in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Eagles 20-6 to tie the game at 28-28 at halftime.

Two 3-pointers by Howard and six points by Lillian Burnett in the third quarter pushed the CFS lead back out to 10 points, while holding the Lady Lakers to two points. Calloway outscored CFS by four points in the fourth but the Lady Eagles held them off to win by six.

Howard scored 31 points in the win, her third highest point total this season. She hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and was 3-for-3 at the free throw line.

CFS picked up their 15th win on Saturday 65-28 over CCA. Led by Gracie Howard with 20, two others in double figures included Burnett with 18 and 13 from Rhema Howard. The Lady Eagles led 38-15 at halftime and stretched it out to a 41-point lead at the end of the third quarter on their way to the 37-point win.

They host Murray on Tuesday, a team they beat 47-32 on Jan. 18, and will look to pick up their third district win of the season.
