Lady Marshals off to 2-0 start in Fort Walton Beach, FL

Games are underway for the Lady Marshals Varsity and JV squads this week at the Florida Softball Beach Bash in Fort Walton Beach, FL with games running from March 31 through April 7. A total of 11 games will be played between the Varsity and JV teams and both are 2-0 after the first two days of play.

The Lady Marshals defeated Springboro High School from Ohio 13-5 in their first game on Sunday. After trailing Springboro 5-0 after two innings, the Lady Marshals took the lead with a 6-run third inning that was kicked off with a double by Gracey Murt. Scoring came on an RBI single by Presley Jezik, a bases loaded walk by Kaycee Kemp, a wild pitch and an error to tie 5-5 with the go-ahead run coming on a single by Layne Pea.

They held the lead the remainder of the game, scoring a run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice by Sarenna Tomassi and a 4-run fifth inning on RBI’s by Murt and Jezik, 1-run triple by Tomassi and single by Kaycee Kemp to go up 11-5. The final two runs came in the top of the sixth inning on a 2-run single hit by Pea.

Aubree Jo Kemp, Shelby Wadkins and Gabbi Lovett were on the mound for the Lady Marshals in the win.

The JV team beat Eastern 3-1 in the following game with all three runs coming in the first inning on a 3-run hit by Riley Piercefield.

Wadkins and Lovett tossed a shut out for the Lady Marshals on Monday, picking up a 3-0 over North Oldham. Kinley Edwards had the hot bat in the win, going 2 for 3 with a double, triple and 2 RBI’s. The Lady Marshals scored a run in the top of the fourth inning on Edward’s double and added two more runs in the top of the sixth that began on a single by Addie Young before Edward’s triple brought in Destiny Sauders, running for Young. The final run of the game was put up by Edwards who was brought home on a sacrifice hit by Pea.

The JV squad shut out Ohio County 1-0, a run scored by Murt on an error. Lovett pitched three innings allowing one hit and no runs and Tia Thorpe pitched two inning allowing no hits and no runs.

The JV and Varsity squads will both play North Bullitt on Tuesday, Wednesday the Lady Marshals Varsity will play Edgewood at 9:30 am followed by a JV game at noon against Apollo. Friday the Lady Marshals will take on Assumption at 3:00 with two games scheduled for Saturday – a JV game against Niceville, FL at 10:00 am followed by the Varsity game against Niceville at noon.
