Local groups collecting for Harvey victims

Various local agencies are organizing efforts to lend aid to victims in Texas suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The storm rolled through last weekend, causing historic flooding in Houston and surrounding areas. The below businesses and agencies are collecting to assist disaster relief efforts:

  • WCCK in Calvert City will collect new back packs, drawstring bags, granola bars, hygiene items, small first aid kits, pillows and other such items. The radio station will also accept cash donations to shop for necessary items, as well. Lyon Count Judge-Executive Wade White and a local youth group will collect items and take them to affected areas this Saturday for delivery.
  • The Marshall County Democratic Women are collecting donations for infants and children, including diapers, formula, wipes, socks and underwear. The group will also collect feminine hygiene products and toiletries. Items may be taken to Democratic Party Headquarters from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, at 204 N. Main St. in Benton. Donations may also be given to any executive committee member or member of the Women’s organization.
  • West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative is collecting baby needs and personal hygiene items for victims of Hurricane Harvey at the Benton office. The collection will continue during regular business hours through Thursday, Sept. 7. All items collected by WKRECC will go to the Houston area next weekend with a disaster relief team from 7 Oaks Church of Christ. Please note the office will be closed Monday for Labor Day.
  • Fast Pace Urgent Care Clinic will collect items through 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.
