Wins over Trigg and Apollo improve Marshals record to 18-6

Lance Dyke hit two singles in the Marshals 6-4 win over Apollo Saturday.

DRAFFENVILLE – Two wins Friday and Saturday for the Marshals improve their record to 18-6. They beat Trigg County 9-0 on Friday then were back at it on Saturday with a 6-4 win over Apollo. They have a busy week coming up starting today (Monday) against Christian County (16-9) at Murray State University’s Reagan Field, Tuesday at home against Tilghman (18-6), Thursday at Hickman County (6-10), Friday at Madisonville North Hopkins (14-11) and two on Saturday in the Dreammaker Classic at home against St. Mary (6-8) and Graves County (14-5).

Friday against Trigg County, after a scoreless first two innings, the Marshals scored runs in the next four innings to shut out Trigg County 9-0. In the bottom of the third, a ground out by Jackson Beal brought in Drake Anderson for a 1-0 lead and they picked up four more runs in the fourth inning on a single by Dawson Smothers, single by Lance Dyke, sacrifice fly from Tyler Belcher and single by Anderson for a 5-0 lead.

One run scored in the fifth on a ground out and their final two in the sixth on a 3-run triple by Cameron Ives. Weston Harper earned the win in six innings on the mound, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out three.

Lucas Forsythe was 4 for 4 against Apollo with two singles, two doubles and an RBI.

Saturday against Apollo, the Eagles scored on an error and the Marshals on a sacrifice fly by Ives for a 1-1 tie in the first inning.

The tie continued after the two teams each put two more runs on the board in the fourth. Apollo scoring on a 2-run single by Peyton Peters and the Marshals on a single by Anderson and sacrifice bunt by Beal.

The Marshals took the lead for good in the fifth, adding two more runs for a 5-3 lead on a ground out by CJ Johnson that brought in Lucas Forsythe and a single by Skylar Brown.

Apollo scored a run in the top of the sixth that the Marshals answered in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a single by Forsythe.

Griffin Ives got the win in six innings allowing nine hits, three earned runs and striking out two.
