MURRAY – Marshall County’s boys team took first in Friday’s Area 1 Championships at Calloway County among a field of 16 teams. Their point total of 118.50 beat out McCracken County in second with 111.50 and Hopkinsville third with 82 points. In a field of 15 teams, the Lady Marshals placed fifth with 73 points, first went to Murray with 144.50, Hopkinsville second with 98.50 and McCracken County third with 88.50.
First place finishes for the Marshals came from Mason Cosner in the 800 meters, Jackson Brown in the 300 meter hurdles, the 4 x 800 relay and Cameron Thurman in the shot put. Hopkinsville dominated the boy’s sprints taking first in the 100, 200 and 400 meters while McCracken County took the distance races with Josh Grogan first in the 1600 meters and Cole Parker first in the 3200 meters.
Murray girls were led by Ann Taylor who won the trifecta in sprints taking the win in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and Hopkinsville’s Avery O’Hara won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Three second place finishes for the Lady Marshals came from Tori McCracken in the high jump, Audrey Grizzard in the pole vault and Kirsten Walker in the shot put. Calloway’s Haley Glynn won both the long jump and triple jump and Murray’s Sarah McDowell took first in the shot put and discus.
Marshall County will host the Region 1 Class 3A Championships on Saturday, May 13th.
