Reminder – Marshall Co 2016 Property Tax Collection ends on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 4:30 pm. If you still owe your property tax that is the last day you can pay at the Sheriff’s Office. The taxes will then be turned over to the Marshall Co Clerk for payment with additional fees, penalties and interest. You can pay online at MARSHALLKYSHERIFF.ORG with a credit card it will charge you an addiitional 2.49% service fee until 4:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2017.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office will be closing at noon on Friday, April 14, 2017 in observance of Good Friday.
On April 6th at 6:03pm, Deputies responded to Draffenville in reference to a reported possible intoxicated driver. SGT. Tim Reynolds and Detective Jeff Daniel were in the area on another case but located the vehicle / driver at the Dollar Store in Draffenville. SGT. Eddie McGuire arrived and as a result of his investigation, Mark S. Green age 56 of Benton was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Influence ALC/Drugs/Etc 2nd Offense. The investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of Percocet and Xanax. Green was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
On April 5th Deputy Steven Oakley investigated a theft on Martin Creek Road in Hardin. Jesse Bennett of Hardin reported the theft of Chainsaws and Hedge Trimmers from his property. The investigation is continuing.
On April 6th at approximately 1:27am Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an incident on US 68 West between Palma and Sharpe. The caller reported that a car crash had occurred and she had stopped to help when the driver in the crash produced a handgun and fired shots. The suspect got into the victims vehicle and demanded he be driven somewhere. The victim was out of the car and got into the vehicle with another witness. More shots were fired. SGT. Tim Reynolds and SGT. Jason Lane responded as did two Calvert City Officers, Officer Jeff Peck and Officer Josh Burkeen. The road was shut down as the suspect barricaded and refused to surrender in the vehicle. More shots were fired from the vehicle after officers arrival. Officers on scene requested that the Marshall County Special Response Team be dispatched to the scene. SRT is a tactical unit of officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Benton Police Department and specially trained paramedics from the Marshall County EMS. SRT responded and a negotiator with the team spent multiple hours attempting to diffuse the situation and get the man to surrender. This was unsuccessful. Eventually the SRT approached the vehicle and used less lethal munitions to bring the incident to a close. The man, identified as Gregory McCall age 64 of Benton, appeared to very intoxicated on an unknown substance. McCall was treated at the scene by SRT medics and then transported by EMS to Marshall County Hospital. During the continued investigation, a substance believed to be Methamphetamine was located in McCalls vehicle. a .40 caliber handgun was recovered from the vehicle that McCall barricaded in. Charges are pending by warrant as McCall continues to receive medical care. No other injuries were reported.The case remains under investigation by Detective Jeff Daniel. Many other officers assisted in the situation both at the scene and afterward.
On April 8th Deputy Luke Rudd and Deputy Chris Greenfield responded to Aurora in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival and investigation, Deputy Greenfield located a man identified as Brent Johnson age 31 of Aurora, laying in a field hiding from law enforcement. He was arrested and charged with Alcohol Intoxication and Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree.
