On October 29th at approximately 6:07pm, Deputy Luke Rudd was dispatched to the area of Hardees and Fivestar in Draffenville. Deputy Rudd was dispatched in reference to a possibly intoxicated female. Deputy Rudd located the woman at Fivestar. He observed the female stumbling. His investigation resulted in the arrest of Shanrah D. Evans age 46 of Benton on the charge of Public Intoxication. She was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
On October 28 at 11:11pm, Sergeant Jason Lane of two people broken down on an ATV and yelling on Hunter Road. Upon arrival, SGT Lane found the male standing in the road and the female sitting beside the ATV crying. It was reported that the male had been driving the ATV and that the female had fallen off. After investigation, the male, Joseph Moore age 25 of Arlington, KY was arrested and charged with DUI. The female was uninjured and released.
On October 30 at approximately 3:00pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Dollar General in Aurora. They reported that a man identified as Jack Morgan age 54 of Hardin had taken items from the store the night before and was again in the store. Deputy Greenfield made contact with Morgan at his vehicle. Upon further investigation, Deputy Greenfield found a bottle of a drug identified as Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride in his vehicle in an unmarked bottle. Morgan was cited to appear in Marshall District Court next month and released.
On October 29th at 11:10pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield and Officer Steve Robinson were dispatched to Walmart in Benton in reference to a man trying lo leave without paying $80 cab fare for bringing him there. Deputy Greenfield observed the man walking away from the area, towards Wendy’s. The officers confronted the suspect identified as John M. Moore age 46 of Fancy Farm. As a result of the ensuing investigation Moore was arrested and charged with the following:
Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree – Meth
Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument
Theft of Services
Public Intoxication
The investigation revealed that Moore had tried to pay using an altered check from an account listed to someone else. Officers also found drugs and paraphernalia.
Moore was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
On October 30th at approximately 7:00pm, Deputies Josh Anderson and Chris Greenfield responded to US 68 East in the Aurora area in reference to a disturbance. It was reported that a Kelvin Ham age 45 of Benton and a Tonya Estes age 47 of Benton had engaged in a disturbance with a neighbor and during the argument Ham is believed to have fired rounds from a handgun. There were children nearby when the weapon was fired. Officers charged Ham and Estes with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. Deputies Anderson and Greenfield were assisted by the Marshall County Special Response Team and a Trooper from the Kentucky State Police. Ham and Estes were lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
Early in the morning on October 31st, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an investigator with the Threat Management Office of the CIA. They wanted to make us aware that someone from Marshall County had e mailed them three times threatening to kill people by blowing up the courthouse and senior citizens center here in Marshall County. Judge Neal ordered the evacuation of the Marshall County Courthouse. The judicial building was also closed and evacuated as a safety measure. Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Benton Police Department responded to the county buildings as well as the senior citizens centers. A bomb dog and handler and a trooper from the Kentucky State Police responded to search the buildings threatened. Three detectives from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect at his home in Calvert City. After the ensuing investigation, Austin L. Ford age 27 of Calvert City was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree. After the bomb detection dog finished with sweeps of the threatened facilities, the Judicial Building and Courthouse were reopened to the public.
