On May 21st Deputy William Strader was attempting to locate a Justin L Hanks 33, of Benton, in reference to a Parole Board Warrant. Deputies had developed information that Hanks had been staying at a campsite at the end of Corinth Road. While at the campsite Deputy Strader observed two four wheelers but Hanks was not located. On May 22nd a subject called to report a four wheeler stolen that matched a description of one that Deputy Strader observed at the campsite from the day before. The victim was able to identify and provided a key to the described four wheeler. Deputy Strader then observed that the second four wheeler did not have a VIN located on it and observed a tent at the campsite that had multiple power tools inside. Lieutenant Detective Matt Hilbrecht then started conducting an investigation and found two other locations where Hanks had been staying. Consent was given to search both residences where many other tools were recovered. Another victim of a recent theft was able to identify some of the tools that were located. On May 26th Lt. Det. Matt Hilbrecht conducted an interview with Hanks that alleged that all the property at the campsite was his. Hanks claimed that he had bought the four wheelers but knew due to the price they were stolen. When questioned further by Lt. Det. Hilbrecht, Hanks ended his interview. Hanks was then charged with Receiving Stolen Property Stolen Property U/$10,000 and Obscuring the Identity of a Machine $500 < $10,000.
