Kentucky Hunger Task Force has first meeting

The Kentucky Hunger Task Force began its search for innovative solutions to reduce food insecurity in the Commonwealth during its first meeting Thursday in Shelby County. Members of the task force include Tony Brannon, the dean of the Hutson School of Agriculture at Murray State University. The Hunger Task Force is a product of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s first-ever Hunger Initiative, which is a first-of-its-kind effort to alleviate food insecurity in Kentucky. The objectives will be to study the sources of hunger, identify the unique issues that affect different regions of the Commonwealth, and take an inventory of resources that can be brought to bear against the hunger problem in Kentucky. The task force will hold a series of regional meetings throughout the state to hear from volunteers fighting hunger at the local level. Specific times and locations of the meetings will be announced at a later date.
