Saturday morning, 458 runners from elementary through high school competed in the Marshall County Cross Country Invitational.
Lola Falloway from Burns Middle and Ben Hensley from Christ Heritage won the elementary 1600m races before the varsity girls and boys took to the 5k course.
Brayden Kantola of West Plains won the varsity girls race in 19:24.74. The strong West Plains team placed seven runners in the top 10 on their way to the team win. Marshall County freshman Addison Lyles placed ninth with a time of 21:52.10 for the top Marshall County finish followed by Leah Vincek with a top 20 finish in 17th with 23:18.50 to lead the Lady Marshals to a fifth place finish.
Coming off his win in last week’s Mustang Stampede, junior Ethan McCarty finished third with a time of 16:44.96 for the Marshals top finish followed by a seventh place finish from Cade Flatt in 17:12.38. Apollo’s Thomas Ashby took the win in 16:24.96 and the team from West Plains won completing the sweep of the varsity divisions.
Eden Sandlin crossed the line in third for the top Marshall County finish in the girl’s 4k middle school race, stopping the clock in 17:23.07 and Ann Marie Peffer finished 12th in 18:37.69. Emma Dixon of the West Plains Running Club won with a time of 17:08.27 to help lead the team from West Plains to a first place finish.
Marshall County’s Kobey Yates continues to set new fast times, winning the boy’s race in 13:33.89 while setting a new 4k course record. Yates broke the old record of 14:03.70 set in 2017 by Samuel Lanham. David Walker finished fifth in 15:48. 55 to help lead the strong middle school squad to a first place finish.
