Lady Marshals top Tilghman on Senior Night, fall in slugfest to Christian County

Monday, the Lady Marshals celebrated their nine seniors then proceeded to beat Paducah Tilghman 7-2 and earn their 10th win of the season. Presley Jezik and Sarenna Tomassi led with two hits each and freshman Emily Garland pitched the win over five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six batters.

Tilghman took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings before the Lady Marshals tied it with two runs in the bottom of the second when Kinley Edwards, who led off with a walk, scored on a wild pitch and Gabbi Lovett’s sacrifice bunt brought in Jezik.

The game remained in a 2-2 tie through the next three and a half innings before a five run bottom of the sixth for the Lady Marshals put it away. Jezik, Tomassi and Riley Piercefield loaded up the bases with Jezik and Tomassi scoring two of the five runs on an error. A bunt by McKenzie Elkins brought in the third run of the inning and the final two came on a two run single hit by Cayson Conner.

Presley Jezik connected for an RBI single in the bottom of the first that gave the Lady Marshals a 2-0 lead over Christian County.

The Lady Marshals hosted Christian County on Tuesday, a battle between two top 20 teams coming in, that didn’t disappoint on a cold, blustery evening with a combined 26 hits. The Lady Colonels took the lead by one in the top of the fifth and added one more run in the top of the sixth to win 12-10.

Leading the Lady Marshals, Kinley Edwards was 2-for-3 with an RBI – both or her hits doubles. Anna Vasseur, Cayson Conner and Presley Jezik all had a couple hits each and Jezik finished with three RBIs.

The big hitters for Christian County were Karlee Crick, Gracie Harned and Tenley Gilbert – all with three hits each.

The Lady Marshals led 2-0 after their first time at the plate, runs coming in on a ground out by Edwards that scored Charley Pursley and a single by Jezik that brought in Conner. Christian County went up 4-2 in the top of the second, scoring two runs each on a double by Gilbert and single from Madison Winkler.

A run in the top of the third gave the Lady Colonels a 5-2 lead and the Lady Marshals answered with a huge seven run bottom of the inning. The seven runs were scored on singles by Conner and Jezik and tied 5-5 when Layne Pea’s ground out brought in Madyson Morton. Sarenna Tomassi reached on an error and Jezik crossed the plate to give them a 6-5 lead. The lead was 8-5 on doubles by Riley Piercefield and McKenzie Elkins and Elkins scored the final run of the inning after taking third base on an error and home plate on a passed ball by the catcher.

Three more runs from the Lady Colonels cut the lead to 9-8 in the top of the fourth and the Lady Marshals added a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice by Jezik to lead 10-8.

Christian County took the lead for good in the top of the fifth, adding two runs to go up 11-10 and the final run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt for the 12-10 win.

Riley Hancock earned the win for the Lady Colonels over three innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Christian County improves to 9-3, the Lady Marshals are now 10-5.

Charley Pursley crossed the plate in the first inning to give the Lady Marshals their first run against Christian County after the junior led off with a single.
