The Benton Woman’s Club recently made a donation to support the Beads of Courage program at Mercy Health. The donation, which also included support of the hospital’s cold cap therapy program that reduces hair loss during chemotherapy, was presented by club officials to officials of Mercy Health Foundation – Lourdes.

Lourdes Beads of Courage program is based on the national Beads of Courage initiative focused on children. Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital was the first in the region and the second hospital in the country to pilot the adult Beads of Courage oncology program. Each colorful, glass bead a patient receives is part of that patient’s story and represents courage during the treatment experiences. As beads are added to their Beads of Courage collection, patients record, tell and own their own stories.

The Benton Woman’s Club provides annual support to the Beads of Courage program through funds raised by events and fundraisers. This year club members sold “Pink Out” t-shirts at local high schools during sporting events to support cancer patients and survivors.
