Highway crews preparing for winter weather this weekend

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway crews across the 12 counties of District 1 are preparing for a round of winter weather on Sunday.

Individual counties are developing a response plan based on the types of winter precipitation and varying accumulation amounts they are expecting.

All crews will have trucks loaded with salt and prepared to roll out on short notice before they leave work, today.

Crittenden County and Livingston County crews will be pre-treating to prepare for snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches during the day on Sunday. Motorists in those counties should be alert for trucks spraying brine today and Saturday.

Other counties across the district will have supervisors monitoring driving condtions as the system arrives on Sunday morning and call in personnel to mount an appropriate response.

The main threat of snow is expected between mid-morning Sunday and about 5:00 p.m. Temperatures are expected to hover at or near the freezing mark through the day.

Highway crews across the District 1 region will be doing what they can to improve driving conditions as the winter precipitation moves through. Transportation personnel are asking motorists to do their part by reducing travel speed to meet localized driving conditions.

Anyone who plans to travel across the region on Sunday is encouraged to carefully monitor the National Weather Service and area news media outlets for regular updates to the forecast as this winter system approaches.
