Marshals hold off late rally to beat Murray

Dalton Andersson behind the plate for the Marshals, led off the top of the second with a single in the Marshals 8-6 win over Murray.

MURRAY – With an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Marshals were able to hold off Murray in the Tigers three-run inning, securing the number one seed in the 4th District Tournament later this month with the win.

The Marshals opened with a four-run first inning that began on a single by Drake Anderson and walks to Jackson Beal and Cole Griggs. Cameron Ives hit a two-run double, Lucas Forsythe an RBI single and the fourth run came in on a CJ Johnson ground out.

Murray closed in on a three-run third inning with an RBI single by Ethan Back and two-run single by Jared Gray to cut the Marshall County lead to 4-3. The Marshals added a run in the top of fifth when Beal scored on a ground ball by Ives and extended their lead to 7-3 in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Anderson and Griggs.

A run scored by Forsythe on an error in the top of the seventh made it an 8-3 game but the Tigers weren’t done, putting runners on base on a double and two walks and scoring three runs on a bases loaded double by Casey Wilson. The Marshals put the game away with the final three outs coming on a double play and the final batter out swinging.
