Local police warn of area phone scam

Paducah police are warning the public of a telephone scam being perpetrated in the area.
A woman reports that she received a telephone call from the “Federal Grant Department,” informing her that she had been selected to receive a $9,000 grant. She was told that she needed to send a $100 processing fee, and she would receive her $9,000 through an electronic money transfer.
Luckily, the woman did not fall for the scam and did not lose any money.
Residents are warned to be especially cautious during the holiday season for those who would seek to scam or cheat you out of your money, or who prey on those seeking to help the less fortunate. Always donate to causes you are familiar with, or check out the organization before donating.
