National Weather Service releases rain totals and damage in Marshall County

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service office in Paducah had their hands full all through the holiday weekend, tracking possible tornadoes and keeping ahead of flash flooding during torrential downpours.

Widespread heavy rains resulted in reports of four, five and even six-inch totals from Sunday and Monday.

Four-inch totals were common in Marshall County.

The rain fell at rates of one to three inches per hour at times, and led to rapidly rising creeks and streams.

A bridge in Benton washed out, and pavement was eroded approaching another.

Officials at Land Between the Lakes say that many back roads have washouts, or have trees and branches across the road.

Benton Mayor Rita Dotson added these comments…

Mayor Dotson also reminds you that culverts on Bent Creek and Merrywood in Benton were also washed out during the floods.
