Late-game hits lift Lady Marshals over Ballard, play Hickman County in semi’s

DRAFFENVILLE –  Both teams scoreless until the 4th inning, Ballard Memorial got on the board on an RBI single by Shelby Amis and looked to be pulling off a first round win over the Lady Marshals in Monday’s Region 1 Softball Tournament held at Marshall County High School.

With one out in the bottom of the 6th, Lexee Miller singled to put the tying run on base followed by a 2-out single by Abby Fiessinger. Payton Smothers doubled to bring in Miller to tie the game and with Fiessinger on 3rd and Smothers on 2nd, Addie Young hit a 2-run triple to left field that gave the Lady Marshals a 3-1 lead.

Briley English took care of the next three up for the Lady Bombers in the top of the 7th with two ground outs and a strike out for the win.

They will meet Hickman County, who beat Tilghman 2-1, in today’s semi-finals at 5:00 followed by McCracken County and Carlisle County. McCracken County beat Murray 10-0 in 5 innings and Carlisle County advanced with a 1-0 win over Graves County.
