Marshals down Lakers 5-2 in district game

DRAFFENVILLE – The Marshals followed up their 8-1 win on Monday over Graves County with a 5-2 district win over Calloway County on Tuesday. Trace Colson pitched a solid five innings, striking out 7 and allowing 1 earned run on his way to picking up the win.

Trailing 1-0 in the 1st inning, The Marshals tied the game on an RBI single by Justice Beal. Calloway threatened in the top of the 2nd with bases loaded and two outs. Colson worked his way out of the inning by striking out Jonah Brannon swinging on a full count.

A sacrifice hit in the bottom of the 3rd by Lance Dyke scored Justice Beal for a 2-1 Marshall lead, tied again by the Lakers in the top of the 4th on a bases-loaded sacrifice hit by Lofton Pigg.

The Marshals took the lead again in the 4th on a 2-run double by Cole Griggs before the Lakers ended the inning with a double play.

One more run for the Marshals came in the 5th inning when Griggs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bringing Cameron Ives to home plate.

The Marshals are 8-6 and will try to sweep district games over Calloway County when they play again in Murray on Thursday.
