JAMES C. DARNELL, 95, of Gilbertsville, KY, passed away at 11:04PM Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Baptist Health Paducah.
James was a retired machinist from Newtons Machine Shop in Warren, Michigan. He was an avid coon hunter and the number one fan of Lady Marshals Basketball, which led to his lifetime membership of The Marshall County Backboard Club. James was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a World War II veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Nichols Darnell of Gilbertsville, KY, sixteen nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Gilbert and Mary Edith Darnell; five brothers, Ophus E. Darnell, William Carl Darnell, Raymond Darnell, Walter Darnell and Hayden Darnell; and five nieces and nephews. His parents were Finis Richard Darnell and Ada Eudora Satterfield Darnell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home. Bro. Tom Hughes and Bro. Charles LaChance will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #236 will follow in the Provine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.
