The Kentucky Heritage Council is seeking public input for a new five-year state historic preservation plan that will outline goals, objectives and strategies for the upcoming years. The council helps preserve historic buildings and other sites across the commonwealth.
You can help your community by taking the survey at https://heritage.ky.gov
Your survey answers will be used to determine the most important historic resources in communities, the main obstacles to preserving historic places, the most effective tools to protect historical areas and the most urgent preservation goals for the state.
Common concerns in many communities include demolition by neglect, methods of protecting buildings and historic sites threatened by natural disaster and the need to work collaboratively to develop practical solutions for the preservation and reuse of old buildings. Completed surveys are intended to serve as a tool for individuals, nonprofits and local governments interested in applying these strategies to local issues.
The survey will be open through April 1. Results will be analyzed and incorporated into the 2023-2028 Kentucky State Historic Preservation Plan, which must be submitted to and reviewed by the National Park Service next fall.
You may want to participate in the survey if you are interested in preserving historic sites, a historic property owner, elected official, real estate professional, representative of a federal or state agency, historic site or museum, member of an American Indian tribe with ties to the state, emergency management personnel, a member of the local business community, universities and school systems or an owner or stakeholder of sites that may have not been the focus of historic preservation efforts in the past.
