Marshals finish perfect district and region records

The Marshals followed the Lady Marshals shutout over Calloway County with one of their own, defeating the Lakers 2-0 to wrap up undefeated district (8-0) and regional (11-0) play and they are the regular season Second District champions with a number one seed headed into the district tournament.

This was the Marshals first undefeated record against regional opponents since the 2002 season, two seasons since that time they went 13-0-1 in  2003 and 2014.

The Marshals scored one goal in the first half on a header by Eric Hicks off a corner kick by William Lynch. The second goal came at the start of second half off the foot of Bryson Penn. For the game, the Marshals had 30 shots, 12 on goal, five corner and three saves by Ben Burkeen who ranks first in the state in shutouts. Calloway County had six shots, three on goal and keeper Landon Houk had 10 saves.

The Marshals are 15-2-3 and will play their final game of the regular season at Henderson County on Tuesday before district tournament play begins the week of October 7th at Mayfield.
